Pune, 25 May 2024: In the aftermath of the fatal Porsche accident in Kalyani Nagar last Sunday, which resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals, the state excise department has launched a rigorous crackdown on bars and pubs for multiple regulatory violations. These include serving liquor to minors, selling liquor in unauthorized locations, and failing to maintain proper records.

By Thursday, the licenses of 32 pubs and bars had been suspended. Today, District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase ordered the suspension of an additional 17 licenses, bringing the total to 49 establishments that have been ordered to close until further notice.

The State Excise Department is in the process of sealing these premises, as confirmed by Sujit Patil, Deputy Superintendent of the Pune Excise Department.

The stringent actions follow revelations that a minor, who had allegedly been served alcohol at two pubs—Cosie and Blak Club—was driving a Porsche at over 160 km/h when the accident occurred. This incident has triggered a wider investigation into the compliance of excise regulations throughout the city.

“We are taking strict action against establishments violating excise laws,” stated Dr. Suhas Diwase, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to enforcing these regulations rigorously.
