A huge six-ton rock fell near Jagtap Machi on Sinhagad Fort’s Ghat Road around 5 am on Monday. Fortunately, there were no injuries as the road was empty at the time.

A significant crack occurred near Jagtap Machi on Ghat Road at Sinhagad Fort early Monday morning. The six-ton rock collapsed, blocking the road used by thousands of tourists and local residents. Luckily, no one was present at the site, preventing any loss of life.

Despite spending crores of rupees to protect the gorge, the Sinhagad Ghat roads suffer landslides every year during the monsoon season, leading to frequent accidents involving tourists. The Mawla Jawan organization has urged the administration to take immediate safety measures for tourists.

Efforts to remove the rock included using a JCB machine, which proved unsuccessful. The forest department promptly resorted to breaking the massive rock with breakers. After four hours of work, the rock was finally broken successfully by noon.

Due to the rockfall, vehicles from Kalyan, Kondhanpur, Donje, and Pune, including jeeps and milk tempos, were stuck from early morning. The collapse of huge rocks and debris caused significant disruption on the ghat road.
