Residents of Kad Nagar at Undri Junction, Mohamadwadi in Pune have voiced serious concerns over the placement of electricity poles following recent road infrastructure development by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The road widening and resurfacing project, aimed at accommodating increased traffic flow, inadvertently placed electricity poles in hazardous positions, risking the safety of motorists.

Mohamadwadi Undri Residents Development Welfare Foundation today handed over a letter with regards to the shifting of poles and ensure congestion free Kad Nagar Chowk to Dr Amol Kolhe, MP, Shirur Constituency under whose jurisdiction the area lies.

Sunil Koloti, a local resident and community advocate, highlighted the imminent dangers posed by these poorly positioned poles. “The newly placed electricity poles at Kad Nagar, Undri Junction are a direct threat to public safety,” Koloti emphasized. “They obstruct traffic flow and significantly increase the risk of accidents, especially for bikers and drivers navigating through the area.”

The issue gained prominence after an article published by Pune Pulse drew attention to the precarious situation. According to the report, PMC’s roadworks did not adequately consider the optimal placement of existing infrastructure, resulting in electricity poles standing dangerously close to the expanded road, posing a severe safety hazard.

A memorandum was also handed over to Shirur Constituency Member Of Parliament Dr Amol Kolhe today on July 5 2024 who was apprised of the issue. Kolhe has assured that the work will be given priority.

Local residents have called out for urgent action from PMC and MSEDCL to rectify the placement of electricity poles and ensure the safety of all road users at Kad Nagar, Undri Junction. With concerns mounting over potential accidents and disruptions to traffic flow, stakeholders are eager to see swift and effective measures implemented to address this pressing issue.

For now, the community remains vigilant, awaiting concrete steps from authorities to mitigate the hazards posed by these poorly placed electricity poles.

Kolhe was also apprised of the delay in completion of road projects in NIBM road, Kondhwa, Mohamadwadi Undri road and NIBM annexe road. He assured that the  concerned PMC department will be directed to expedite the work.
