Ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in Pune, the district election office has been bustling with activity, having received a significant influx of voter registration applications. A total of 3.38 lakh new voter applications have been submitted, with 5.54 lakh applications processed online to date. Officials are currently engaged in verifying these applications through a door-to-door campaign scheduled from June 25 to July 24.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced this summary voter registration drive to streamline the process, aiming to publish the updated voter list by August 20. Minal Kalaskar, deputy election officer, highlighted the ongoing verification efforts by booth level officers, covering approximately 5% of households as of June 25.

Notably, alongside new registrations, the office has also received forms for deletion (50,030) and change of address (1.70 lakh). The surge in online applications continues unabated, underscoring the efficient integration of digital platforms like the ECI website and voter helpline app for registration purposes.

Moreover, as part of preparations for the Maharashtra assembly elections, the ECI has initiated a special revision program focusing on establishing polling stations in high-rise buildings and residential complexes across urban areas. Housing societies are encouraged to liaise with their local Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to facilitate the process by providing essential details such as society name, address, registration number, and estimated number of voters.

This proactive approach ensures inclusivity and accuracy in the electoral process, reaffirming Pune’s readiness for the upcoming assembly polls. With robust citizen engagement and streamlined administrative efforts, the district aims to enhance voter participation and uphold the democratic ethos in the region.
