The foundation, which boasts a group of around 300 individuals, sees active participation from 25-30 members in these weekend drives. Sandeep Jagtap, a dedicated member, highlighted that leveraging the monsoon season has been particularly fruitful, allowing them to plant approximately 500 trees over the years.

Sandeep Kamble, another member, explained, “Our members, many of whom are working professionals, gather every weekend at 6 AM for these activities. The drives are open to everyone, with no formal registration required, encouraging more people to join and contribute. Participation varies, with some weekends seeing up to 50 volunteers.”

The foundation’s meticulous approach involves digging holes about two feet deep to ensure the saplings, which are 5-6 feet tall, are well-planted. The saplings, funded through member contributions and external donations, are maintained using irrigation pipelines and water tankers provided by local companies. “Our aim is to expand Pune’s green cover and preserve its biodiversity,” Kamble added.

Recently, around 300 trees were planted at the rear of the Wanowrie forest area. The Forest Department often supports these initiatives by attending the drives, although the Green Nandanvan Foundation independently manages and finances the entire operation. These weekly drives are open to all, inviting locals and visitors alike to participate and help make a significant environmental impact.
