As per the ‘Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003,’ the sale of tobacco products is prohibited within the vicinity of any school, college, or educational institution. This law aims to prevent students from developing any addictions. However, parents have complained that tobacco products are being sold near schools in Pune. Cigarettes, gutkha, and other tobacco products are available at pan shops near schools. Some students are seen visiting these shops on their way to or from school. This situation poses a risk of addiction among students and can seriously affect their mental health and academic performance.

Against this backdrop, on Tuesday, a meeting was held with Pune’s Circle One Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sandeep Singh Gill, involving concerned parents. They requested police surveillance around school areas to identify and take action against anyone selling tobacco products. Mr. Gill assured that the police would be instructed to address this issue promptly.

The delegation included Dheeraj Ghate along with Pune City BJP Yuvati Aghadi President Manisha Dharne, Manisha Sanap, Anand Patil, Prashant Surve, Vijay Gaikwad, Amar Awale, Pushkar Tuljapurkar, and a large number of officials.
