A delay has been caused for the inner Ring Road project of Pune. A senior officer from Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) said that the reason for the delay is because of the upcoming elections.

The Ring Road is crucial due to heavy traffic congestion affecting Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and other areas leading to Pollution and Traffic issues.

The State Government pushes land for acquisition completion by June 2024 for the outer ring road by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). A joint survey for land acquisition from Solu to Wadgaon Shinde is done, but the actual acquisition might be delayed due to the election-related tasks occupying revenue officials.

However, looking at the Lok Sabha polls, assembly elections and local corporation elections are expected to keep revenue officials busy slowing the land acquisition progress. In 2015, the government approved the ring road construction project divided into East and West Phases, entrusted to MSRDC. In the first phase, 32 villages along the Pune (West)  Ring Road received notices for consent options. Therefore, a dedicated Land Acquisition Cell speeds up the compensation distribution.

Moreover, tariff determination for 48 villages along the East Ring Road is done, with compensation and distribution in progress. Landowners have received a total of Rs. 2652 crore, making it the largest compensation for the Public project in the district.
