Pune: Karve Nagar Based Woman Scammed By Man Over Pretext Of Marriage And Gift From Canada, Loses Rs 75 Lakh
The case of cheating was registered at Warje Police Station.
A 35-year-old woman from the Karve Nagar area has filed a complaint with Warje Police Station, alleging that she was cheated, wherein she lost Rs 75 lakhs when a man promised her marriage and a gift from Canada. The complaint was registered on Saturday, June 22.
The woman and the accused, identified as Manekkhare Vabim Ladevi, met on social media. Their conversations grew more frequent over WhatsApp calls, eventually leading to a romantic relationship. Ladevi convinced the woman of his intentions to marry her. To further gain her trust, Ladevi claimed he had bought her a gift from Canada. He said the gift was stuck at the airport and asked for money to resolve customs issues. Believing him, the woman transferred RS 75 Lakhs in several instalments.
After receiving the money, Ladevi stopped contacting her, prompting the woman to realise she had been defrauded. She then filed a complaint with the Warje Police Station. Police Inspector Jagtap is leading the investigation into the matter. The authorities are working to trace and apprehend the accused. “We are thoroughly investigating the case and will ensure that the accused is brought to justice,” said Inspector Jagtap.
