Pune: The deadline for finishing the flyover at Katraj Chowk has been pushed ahead once more, now set for January 2025 instead of the initial target of June this year. The flyover is designed to pass over the main chowk, linking Navale Bridge and Katraj Road to Katraj  Kondhwa Road. Its purpose is to alleviate traffic congestion at the junction and enable vehicles to move without stopping at the intersection. Due to the prolonged construction, the barricades placed along the affected road sections have been causing traffic jams in the area.

It’s concerning to hear about the traffic management issues at Katraj Chowk, a crucial entry point into Pune city. With four major roads intersecting at the junction and a PMPML bus terminus adding to the congestion, it’s clear that proper traffic control measures are essential. Local MLA Bhimrao Tapkir highlighted these challenges during the state assembly session, emphasizing the difficulties faced by citizens due to the project delay and the absence of traffic wardens at the junctions.

In response to Tapkir’s concerns, State PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan acknowledged the delays in the flyover construction due to land availability issues but assured accelerated progress. He also committed to deploying more traffic wardens at Katraj Chowk to address the traffic snarls. It’s crucial for authorities to prioritize resolving these issues promptly to improve traffic flow and enhance commuter safety in the area.

It’s definitely a significant problem that needs urgent attention. The issues at Katraj Chowk, with the lack of proper traffic management and the delays in completing the flyover project, are causing inconvenience to commuters and adding to the traffic chaos in the area. It’s positive to see that local representatives like MLA Bhimrao Tapkir are advocating for solutions and that State PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan is taking steps to address the situation by expediting the construction and deploying more traffic wardens.
