Pune: Man duped of Rs 1.8 lakh in online dry fruit scam

Pune- A 41-year-old man, an employee at a private company in Mahalunge, lost Rs 1.8 lakh while placing an order for dry fruits online at a cheap rate. He had come across a departmental store on a social media platform offering 4kg of dry fruits at a low price of Rs 399. 

Determined to buy dry fruits, he clicked on the link provided and filled in his credit card details which led to the scam.

According to police, he noticed the offer of 1kg of raisins, pistachios, cashews, and almonds only for Rs 399 online on March 30. He promptly filled in sensitive credit card information on the link and 30 minutes later, transactions amounting to Rs 1.8 lakh were made using his credit card details. 

Further investigation is underway. Therefore, it is advised to not provide bank information unless the website is encrypted and trusted by the person.
