Pune metro breaks 2024’s Sunday ridership record with 95,669 commuters!

Pune- On Sunday, the Pune metro saw a record-breaking ridership of the year so far with 95,669 commuters. The highest single-day ridership was registered on August 15 last year, with 1.69 lakh passengers benefiting from the metro. Amidst the heatwave experienced by the citizens of Pune, the metro has earned a significant number of passengers. Pune metro is fast on its way to become the preferred mode of commute for Punekars as evident on May 26 with a record-breaking ridership. 

The official handle of Pune Metro shared this information on X and Instagram. “Record-breaking Sunday! Pune Metro breaks 2024’s Sunday ridership record with 95,669 commuters”, read the post. They also expressed their gratitude towards Punekars for choosing metro travel. 

The average daily ridership had reached 56,633 passengers in early 2024 owing to line extension and an increase in the number of trains.

In a recent update provided by Pune Pulse, work on the extended Pune Metro from Pimpri to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi has begun. This route comprises four stations: Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhakti Shakti Chowk. The construction will begin shortly after the soil testing process is finished. The Central Government approved the Pimpri to Nigdi extension on October 23, 2023. This expansion will increase the Pune Metro network to a total length of 37.613 km, encompassing 33 stations. Maha Metro will first conduct soil tests and prepare the route layout after which the actual construction of the line will begin.

Currently, the Purple Line and Aqua Line of the Pune Metro are operational. the extension of metro routes from Phugewadi to Shivajinagar (Purple Line) and Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic (Aqua Line) was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on August 1, 2023. The line connecting Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi is also under construction and is expected to be completed by March 2025.
