In the monsoon session that is being held at the Maharashtra Assembly, concerns over the development and taxation of Wagholi were raised by Ashok Pawar, Member of Legislative Assembly from Shirur Haveli.

Pawar voiced his apprehensions, stating, “The population of Wagholi is increasing rapidly so the 2011 census should not be taken as the base while preparing the development plan of Wagholi.” He emphasized the urgency of using updated data for planning with the latest population data.

Responding to Pawar’s concerns, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the challenges of infrastructure planning amidst rapid population growth.Fadnavis assured the assembly, “When we start any project, we usually keep in mind how population will increase. If we start something today, we will plan with a view to 2031. Development projects often take longer than expected, but we are committed to completing them as soon as possible.”

Pawar also questioned the disparity between Wagholi’s high tax contributions to the PMRDA and the availability of basic amenities.

He demanded answers, asking, “When will the people of Wagholi get all the facilities, considering they are paying the highest taxes?”

In response to this query, Fadnavis acknowledged the issue but cited a lack of detailed information. He admitted, “I don’t have any briefing on another question, hence it’s difficult for me to answer this question now.”

Pawar further pressed for fair taxation policies aligned with development outcomes. He criticized, “Will you still take heavy taxes unless it’s developed? Stop taking heavy taxes.”

The assembly session highlighted ongoing challenges in balancing taxation, development, and infrastructure needs in rapidly growing areas like Wagholi.

The discussion underscored the importance of effective planning and resource allocation to ensure equitable growth and service delivery in Maharashtra’s expanding urban centers. Further deliberations are expected as efforts continue to address Wagholi’s developmental priorities in the coming legislative sessions.
