More than seventy heavy vehicles were fined by the police this weekend for operating in no-entry zones in Lonavala. For the first few days, the drivers were alerted about the entry ban. Thereafter, the officials have started issuing challans to them.

It is worthy to note that to reduce traffic in the city, Pune District Collector Suhas Diwase issued an order on June 19 banning heavy vehicles from the Khandala exit point to the Valvan exit point on the Pune-Mumbai highway from 6 am to 10 pm.

According to the Lonavla City police, boards were put up to warn the truck drivers. This comes after authorities imposed a permanent ban on heavy and bulky vehicles from 6 am to 10 pm along the old Pune-Mumbai National Highway as it passes through Lonavala city. This decision aims to address the frequent jams and fatal incidents exacerbated by the influx of tourists, particularly on weekends and holidays.

This recent order, effective immediately, highlights a commitment to safer and smoother traffic flow through Lonavala. Violators of the ban will face strict penalties, underlining the seriousness with which authorities are addressing these traffic management issues. Additionally, measures such as signage installation and enhanced enforcement are being implemented to ensure compliance and enhance road safety in the region.
