After the horrific accident in Kalyaninagar, the issue of pubs and rooftop restaurants in Pune has come to light. The municipal corporation has no record of the number of pubs in the city. The municipality only approves restaurants as per construction rules, making it unclear if there are pubs operating. The municipal administration claims that the police or district administration might have this information.

The Municipal Corporation has records of rooftop hotels and has acted against unauthorized ones. In January, they informed the police to take action against such hotels. The recent accident occurred when a speeding car hit a young man and woman leaving a pub in Kalyaninagar early Sunday morning. This incident prompted inquiries about the number of pubs, revealing that no separate records exist.
The municipality only grants permission after verifying necessary documents for starting a restaurant. Therefore, they claim no knowledge of activities inside these establishments. However, they do have statistics on rooftop hotels. There are 89 unofficial rooftop hotels in the city. Seven of these hotels received notices under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1949.

Actions have been taken against 53 rooftop hotels. Six hotel owners have dismantled their constructions voluntarily. The use of seven hotels has been stopped, and stay orders have been issued for another seven. Additionally, the construction and development department reported that crimes have been registered against nine hotels.
