To manage the weekend traffic at Sinhagad Fort, forest authorities decided to stop vehicles from entering the Ghat section road five times during the day last Sunday. This decision aims to prevent accidents on the narrow road, according to Pune forest officials.

A forest officer explained the new plan, saying, “We will release vehicles from the bottom of the fort to the top every hour. During this hour, no vehicles will come down from the top. The next hour, vehicles will be released from the top to the bottom, and no vehicles will go up.”

Since the monsoon started, there has been a surge in visitors to Sinhagad Fort, especially on weekends. A local citizen shared, “We often go trekking at Sinhagad Fort with family, but weā€™ve stopped driving there on weekends due to heavy traffic. Last weekend, we were stuck for over two hours.”

In response to safety concerns, PMPML e-bus services were launched on May 21, 2022, by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. These electric buses ran successfully from May 2 to May 16, 2022, carrying 47,000 passengers and generating significant revenue. However, due to safety issues, the e-bus services were halted on May 17, 2022, while private vehicles continued to access the fort.

Starting this weekend, the new timed vehicle release plan will be enforced to ensure a smoother flow of traffic and reduce congestion at Sinhagad Fort.
