Incident Occurred Near Kalyan Darwaja; Prompt Action by Officials Prevented Major Tragedy

A group of mischief-making tourists allegedly disturbed a bee hive near the Kalyan Darwaja of Sinhagad Fort, causing a swarm of bees to become agitated and create panic among other visitors and locals. Thanks to the swift response from forest and archaeology officials, a major disaster was averted.

A forest officer speaking to Pune Pulse explained, “The incident took place on Sunday morning around 8:30 am. Some tourists threw stones at a bee hive near Kalyan Darwaja, causing the bees to fly erratically. Locals immediately alerted us, and our team began efforts to manage the situation. The chaotic movement of bees frightened the tourists, leading to panic. By 10:30 am, the situation was brought under control, and the bees were cleared from the area.”

“Initial reports suggest that 2 to 3 individuals were responsible for the incident, but they fled the scene immediately after throwing the stones, making it difficult to trace them. For a time, tourists were prevented from accessing Kalyan Darwaja until the bees dispersed,” he added.

As it was a Sunday, the fort was particularly crowded. The disturbance led to three to four people being stung by bees, who were promptly treated. Forest officials managed to control the situation by setting grass and wet branches on fire, taking necessary precautions to keep tourists away from Kalyan Darwaja.

Sumit Ranjane, Dutta Jorkar, Rahul Jorkar, Swapnil Sambre, Sagar Shinde from the archaeology department, along with Nandu Jorkar, a security guard from the Sinhagad Forest Protection Committee, played crucial roles in managing the crisis.
