In light of the monsoon season and the anticipated increase in water-borne diseases, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued an advisory containing necessary precautions.

Pune – The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has released a health advisory to alert citizens following a surge in typhoid cases within the city. The civic body is urging citizens to exercise caution and adhere to appropriate measures to prevent water-borne diseases.

The advisory outlines specific dos and don’ts to be followed in light of the monsoon season and the expected rise in diseases. Water-borne illnesses are typically spread through the consumption of contaminated water or food, and hence the advisory includes the following points:

1. Citizens are advised to only consume clean potable water.

2. Water from unused wells should not be used for drinking.

3. Stale and unhygienic stored food should not be consumed.

4. Individuals suffering from symptoms such as diarrhea, dysentery, chills, fever, etc., are encouraged to visit the nearest PMC hospital for treatment.

5. It is recommended not to store water for more than five days.

6. Containers used to store drinking water should be emptied once a week, cleaned, dried, and kept dry.

7. Measures should be taken to prevent mosquito breeding at home.

Dr. Suryakant Devkar, the assistant health officer of PMC, stated that individuals experiencing symptoms such as nausea, cold, fever, diarrhea, etc., should seek medical attention at the nearest government hospital.
