Pune city police have intensified their investigation into alleged illegal drug activities at Liquid Leisure Lounge, a pub located on Fergusson College Road. Following reports of the pub operating beyond permissible hours, authorities took decisive action.

On Monday, a total of 14 individuals associated with the establishment were apprehended—eight by the Pune city police and six by the excise department—on charges related to illicit operations.

The investigation gained momentum after videos purportedly showing drug use within the pub surfaced online on June 23, sparking widespread public concern. Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, confirmed that two individuals linked to the case were detained in Mumbai on Tuesday. They are slated to be transferred to Pune for further interrogation.

In response to the alleged violations, the Pune police have invoked several legal measures including the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, and section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (disobedience to order duly promulgated) against the accused.

Authorities have also collected samples from the pub to aid in their probe into the reported illegal drug usage. The actions taken by law enforcement underline a concerted effort to uphold public safety and enforce regulatory compliance in nightlife establishments across the city.

The incident has highlighted the challenges faced by authorities in monitoring and regulating such venues. As the investigation progresses, authorities remain committed to ensuring that those responsible for flouting the law face appropriate consequences.
