According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Rohidas Pawar, 865 intoxicated drivers have received penalties since May 21 2024.

Following the Kalyani Nagar accident, the traffic police have intensified their crackdown on drunk drivers, penalizing 865 individuals in the last month through an anti-drink and drive campaign. The city is experiencing a surge in drunken driving accidents, with many fatalities occurring annually.

Every Friday and Saturday, the city’s main routes to bars, and pubs are blocked as part of the anti-drunk and drive campaign. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Rohidas Pawar, 865 intoxicated drivers have received penalties since May 21 2024.

The Mundhwa traffic department in the city took action against the largest number of intoxicated drivers, 80. After that, the Chaturshrungi traffic department took action against 76 intoxicated drivers, followed by 68 in the Yerawada traffic department, 63 from the Sahakar Nagar traffic department, and 59 from the Vishrambaug traffic department.

Only one intoxicated driver from the Lonikand traffic division, 5  from the Shivajinagar division, 9 from each of the traffic divisions in Samarth and Vishrambaug, and 10 from the Loni Kalbhor division have received the least amount of action.
