Pune, 22nd May 2024: The father of the 17-year-old boy involved in a tragic Porsche crash that killed two individuals has been remanded to police custody until May 24.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when the juvenile driver, along with his friends, visited two bars between 9:30 pm and 1 am, allegedly consuming alcohol before the fatal incident.

The juvenile’s father,  Vishal Agarwal was arrested on May 21, shortly after being detained in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The builder attempted to outsmart the cops after fleeing the city. He sent one of his vehicles towards Mumbai and another to Goa. He borrowed a vehicle from an associate but it had a GPS fitted in it.

He faces charges under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In response to the incident, the Pune Excise Department has sealed the Cosie bar and the Black bar, both of which reportedly served alcohol to the minor. The managers of these establishments have been arrested, along with one bar owner.

This incident has highlighted significant issues regarding the serving of alcohol to minors and the responsibilities of both parents and establishment owners in preventing such tragedies. The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) is also set to decide today whether the teen driver will be tried as an adult, given the serious nature of the offense.
