The Satara district administration acted swiftly to demolish illegal structures in Mahabaleshwar after a directive from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. While visiting his hometown Dare, villagers informed Shinde about unauthorized buildings appearing around the hill station.

The first structures to be demolished belonged to the father of the teenager involved in the Porsche crash that killed two engineers in Pune’s Kalyaninagar on May 19. The teen’s family had illegally constructed several cottages in a club on the collector’s land.

A local scribe reported that following the CM’s directives, the entire club was sealed on May 31. The administration served a notice to the management, ordering them to demolish all illegal cottages within 24 hours. The management did not respond, prompting the administration to raze all the illegal structures.

The club was established more than two decades ago, but unauthorized cottages started appearing eight years ago. Local activists had repeatedly alerted the administration about the issue, but action was taken only after Shinde intervened.
This decisive action reflects the administration’s renewed commitment to enforcing regulations and removing illegal constructions in Mahabaleshwar, ensuring the preservation of this popular hill station’s environment and character.
