The Pune railway division is set to revamp two underpasses in Khadki Range Hills following a decision made during a recent meeting at the divisional railway manager’s office on June 21. Officials from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB), Defence Estates Office (DEO), and MLA Siddharth Shirole were present at the meeting.

In the upcoming weeks, an independent survey of the underpasses will be conducted to assess their current condition. It has been unanimously agreed that the underpasses, currently too narrow at 6m, will be widened to 18m to accommodate increased traffic flow. The PMC will fund the preparation of a general arrangement drawing (GAD) through a private agency in the coming months.

Officials highlighted that the existing narrow width of the underpasses has led to congestion issues exacerbated by natural streams in the area. Additionally, PMC will undertake the widening of approach roads leading to the underpasses as part of the project.

MLA Siddharth Shirole emphasized the unity among all agencies involved and the significance of the decisions taken. He noted that this collaboration marks a crucial step forward in addressing the infrastructure needs of the area.

The railway authorities, drawing on their experience in similar projects, will oversee the execution phase in coordination with PMC officials. The next steps include obtaining necessary sanctions from the railway ministry and completing statutory procedures with defence authorities, including Ammunition Factory Khadki (AFK).

The project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 50 lakh, which PMC has agreed to cover. The involvement of multiple stakeholders underscores a comprehensive approach to enhancing local infrastructure for future requirements.

This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the Khadki Range Hills area, benefiting residents and commuters alike.
