From May 22 to May 31, 2024, regional transport authorities of Pune reported a significant number of violations, with a total of 65 cases recorded. Among these, 52 cases were related to drunk driving, 11 involved unregistered vehicles, and 2 were instances of underage driving. The information was shared by Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pune on June 1, 2024.

The issue of underage driving recently came into the spotlight due to a tragic accident. On May 19, 2024, a Porsche driven by a 17-year-old collided with a two-wheeler at 2:30 am. The crash resulted in the deaths of two engineers. This incident has highlighted the serious consequences of underage driving.

Authorities have outlined the legal consequences for these violations. Drunk driving cases will be sent to court, and the involved individuals will face a suspension of their driving licenses for 180 days. Underage driving cases will also be referred to the court, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of driving age laws.

For unregistered vehicle cases, notices will be issued to the concerned dealers, potentially leading to the suspension of their trade certificates. This measure aims to ensure that all vehicles on the road are properly registered and adhere to legal standards.

These recent incidents and the subsequent legal actions underscore the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. The authorities are urging the public to follow the rules to prevent further tragedies and ensure road safety.
