Pune- The district collector, and the chairman of the district disaster management authority, Dr. Suhas Diwase, has issued a notification to close the Varandha Ghat Road, one of the most prominent roads linking Pune to the Konkan region, on Bhor-Mahad National Highway No. 15 (newly notified as Pandharpur-Bhor-Mahad National Highway No. 965 DD) for heavy traffic from June 26 to August 31, during the rainy season.

The Ghat road within the Pune district has many zigzag turns. The road conditions worsen during the monsoon due to the risk of sudden landslides, falling trees, and soil erosion. Therefore, it has been decided to close the Ghat road during this season to prevent potential loss of lives and property damage.

The road will be closed for all kinds of heavy, medium, and light vehicles when the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues orange and red warnings in the district. However, the ghat road will be open for light vehicle traffic when there are no orange or red warnings for heavy rainfall.
