On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, citizens can get a glimpse of Savarkar’s room in the Boy’s Hostel of FC when he resided here during the early 1900s.

The hostel room of Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s in Fergusson College will be open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm on Tuesday on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Savarkar continued his political activism as a student at Fergusson College in Pune. He was a student of Fergusson College and was staying in room number 17 of Fergusson College Boys Hostel No. 1 from the year 1902 – 1905. He was greatly influenced by the radical Nationalist leader, Lokmanya Tilak.

“The belongings of Veer Savarkar are carefully preserved and beautifully displayed for the citizens. It was a quick and crisp peek into Savarkar’s journey at our college. It feels proud to learn that such an important personality who led to the foundation of our independent nation has a connection with our college.”

Yash Pawar, another student from Fergusson College expressed, “Every stone embedded into the buildings of Fergusson is eager to narrate stories to the beholder from its glorious past. Room no. 17 from Hostel Block 1 narrates one such story of a poet who painted distinctive, lively, and sympathetic images of everything that appealed, connecting its chords straight to the core of human emotions.”
