Pune : Very happy that Velhe taluka has been named after historical ‘Rajgad’ fort – Dy CM Ajit Pawar

Velhe taluka of Pune district has important historical forts like Rajgad, Torna. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj administered Swarajya for 27 years from the Rajgad fort in Velhe taluka. The decision to give Velhe taluka the name of the historical Rajgad fort, the first capital of Swarajya, was taken today through the state cabinet.

As per further information, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has expressed his deep happiness that the wishes of the residents of Velhe Taluka and Pune District have been fulfilled.

The Cabinet’s decision to rename Velhe taluka as ‘Rajgad’ has succeeded in the efforts made by Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune district for the last few years.

Obtaining positive resolutions of 58 out of 70 Gram Panchayats in the taluka to rename Velhe taluka as ‘Rajgad’, approving the recommendation for the name ‘Rajgad’ in the general meeting of Pune Zilla Parishad on 22nd November 2021, submitting such a proposal from Pune Divisional Commissioner on 5th May 2022, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar played an important role at that time.

On 27 April 2023, when he was the leader of opposition in the state, he had written a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde demanding immediate action to rename Velhe taluka as ‘Rajgad’. Ajit Pawar’s demand from time to time as Deputy Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition is being fulfilled today in his own tenure as Deputy Chief Minister.

Velhe taluka, Pune district and all the people of Maharashtra are proud of this, the reaction is being expressed everywhere. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has also congratulated and thanked all the Gram Panchayats and Zilla Parishad members who cooperated in taking this decision.
