Pune: The highly anticipated film “Kalki 2898 AD,” directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, premiered in theaters on Thursday. However, excitement turned to frustration in Pune when the IMAX screening at Cinepolis Westend Mall was abruptly canceled.

A video circulating on social media shows upset moviegoers confronting the theater management. One patron expressed his frustration, saying, “I have my job to resume at 12 o’clock. 8:30 to 11:30 was the show. I came here especially to watch in IMAX.

Why should I compensate my experience because of your negligence? We all took half-day leave from our jobs to come here. You should have informed us about another theater option.”

The customer demanded compensation: “You have to give us 10 vouchers per person if you cannot play this show. Plus, we are going to watch a movie here. I am okay with any other movie. And if it crosses 11:30, refreshments are on you. We won’t be paying a single penny for that.”

The incident was highlighted in a post by Pavan Khedkar, who wrote, “My IMAX show got cancelled. This is not good. People are angry with the theater management. Big letdown. IMAX Pune.”

The cancellation sparked a wider conversation on social media, with many users sharing their own frustrating experiences with the Cinepolis theater at Westend Mall. Comments included, “Cinepolis Aundh is always like that. Inox mall of the millennium is the best,” and “Westend IMAX always has some issue.”

One user noted, “Matured way of handling the situation without getting mad at theater owners.” Another added, “Same in Bangalore @VegaCitySocial canceled my IMAX show today, disappointed a lot.” Similar issues were reported in Chennai, with users mentioning canceled IMAX shows.

Despite the setbacks, “Kalki 2898 AD” continues to attract significant attention and praise for its unique storyline and star-studded cast. The management at Cinepolis Westend Mall has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cancellation. However, Khedkar confirmed that the management took action and resolved the issue.
