As predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department, it rained in Pune city today with record rainfall in Wadgaonsheri area. The area recorded 11.4 mm rain in a few hours leaving the area paralysed with water logging in many low lying areas.

Alpha society in Kalyani Nagar saw water logging in the society’s premises. The society had to call out for PMC’s help. Several residents lamented PMC for the shoddy job of cleaning storm water drainage lines as it is clearly visible that the work resulted only in more water logging on the road with water entering many societies.

Former head, weather forecasting department, Dr Anupam Kashyapi, IMD Pune on the record rainfall in Wadgaonsheri stated that it’s a very intense to extremely intense spell of rain, very close to cloud burst but not cloud burst in a true sense. Obviously it resulted in flash flood type of things and inundation in low lying areas, poor visibility & slippery roads in that region. It is recommended that each one of us must take utmost care and also check the regular weather updates for the next few days and be safe.

Heavy water logging was also reported in Dhanori, Padmavati, Pune Satara road and Kalyani Nagar too. A Jaguar was caught in deep water under a bridge in Kalyani Nagar area. This extreme rainfall has exposed the poor work done by the civic authorities as there was no exit way for water to percolate or flow towards the storm water lines.
