Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge had some light moments during the Rajya Sabha.

“During the intense debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge had some light-hearted moments in the House on Monday.”

As Kharge got up to speak from his seat, he noted that he was unable to stand for long because of foot pain. In a quick and considerate response, the Chairman said, “You may address the House while sitting.”

Kharge mentioned he would sit only if the Chairman permits, to which Dhankhar replied, “We must ensure your comfort while addressing the House. If the physical disability or pain is severe to the point where you can’t stand here or outside, then you may make your own decision.”

Kharge, smiling at the Chairman’s response, mentioned that a speech given while seated lacks the passion of one delivered standing. The Chairman agreed, laughing, and commented that there is no ‘jazba’ (passion) while sitting.

It’s refreshing to see politicians share light moments and jokes during debates. It humanizes them and shows a different side to their personalities. It’s important to have a balance between serious discussions and moments of humor to keep things engaging and relatable.
