Safety measures implemented to prevent mishaps

Date: 20 June, 2024

The authorities of Kalsubai Harichandragad Wildlife Sanctuary have taken a proactive step by announcing the closure of Sandhan Valley for tourists until the end of the monsoon season. This decision aims to avert potential incidents of flooding and rockfall, given the valley’s significant depth of over 300 feet.

The closure follows a sudden rainfall incident last year when tourists were present inside the valley. While no injuries were reported, the forest department encountered challenges in safely evacuating visitors. The in-charge assistant conservator of forest (wildlife) of the sanctuary, emphasized that closing the valley during monsoon is essential to safeguard visitors and maintain operational safety.

Sandhan Valley, renowned for its stunning landscapes and challenging terrain, will reopen for tourists after the monsoon season concludes. This measure aligns with efforts to ensure the safety of all those who visit the natural attraction.

Ahmednagar district boasts several popular tourist spots, including Kalsubai Peak, Harishchandra Gad, Ratan Gad, Bhandardara Dam, and Randha Falls. These locations attract numerous tourists and trekkers, especially during the monsoon season.

Additional SP of Nashik Rural highlighted the coordinated efforts between police and forest officials to manage crowds at these attractions effectively. This joint effort aims to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of visitors throughout the monsoon period.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with the closure of Sandhan Valley during this period. Tourists and adventure enthusiasts are advised to explore alternative destinations in Ahmednagar district or plan their visits to Sandhan Valley post-monsoon.

The decision underscores the importance of prioritizing visitor safety and environmental conservation in popular natural reserves like Sandhan Valley. Authorities remain committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors once the valley reopens.

As the monsoon progresses, ongoing monitoring and precautionary measures will continue to be implemented to uphold safety standards across Ahmednagar’s tourist destinations.
