Security concerns have been raised following an incident at the heritage Ellora Caves where a large group of visitors performed a puja and played musical instruments in violation of site regulations. The event took place early Sunday morning and has prompted calls for tighter security and enforcement of rules.

A group of rural visitors, who had earlier visited the Grishneshwar Temple, arrived at the Ellora Caves around 7:30 AM. Unaware of the rules, they began performing a puja and playing musical instruments inside the caves. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials have labelled it a one-off case, stating that the visitors were immediately asked to disperse once the security staff were informed.

The site, known for its historical and cultural significance, sees a high number of visitors, especially on Sundays. A local businessman reported the incident to the ASI staff after a foreign tourist alerted her about the group’s activities. The security guards swiftly intervened and resolved the matter amicably.

The Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site, require stringent protection to preserve their historical integrity. This incident has underscored the necessity for vigilant enforcement of rules and robust security measures to ensure that such violations do not recur.
