Pune residents recently bore witness to a dramatic real-life ‘Chor-Police’ scenario on JM Road. The incident comes at a time when the security of the citizens in Pune has been a major concern, with recent activities of the Koyta gang, a high-profile Porsche accident, and rising crime instances.

When a robber broke into a mechanical parking lot on Jungli Maharaj (JM) Road last night, chaos broke out. The moment the robber pulled into the parking lot, the hunt began. The robber climbed onto a structure in the parking lot to escape arrest, despite efforts by police to grab him.

The fire department was also summoned by the police to help, but the robber escaped them. The robber eventually had to be persuaded to come down by the cops. A sizable throng assembled to see the event, but in the end, the robber got away.

Operating under a contractor, the automated parking lot was built around fifteen years ago in front of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Garden by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at an expense of almost two crore rupees. The parking lot has been closed due to low income. After withdrawing the tender, PMC sought to reissue it to a new contractor, but their attempts have not been met with any response.
