Pune, July 3, 2024: With the onset of heavy rains, it is essential for citizens to remain cautious and vigilant about domestic and public electrical systems to avoid electrical accidents. At other times as well, electrical accidents occur due to electric shocks from internal wiring, various equipment, or iron objects in homes, shops, societies, and other buildings. This is primarily due to current leakage in internal wiring, improper capacity circuit breakers, or lack of proper earthing. Therefore, to prevent electrical accidents, MSEDCL has appealed for the installation of circuit breakers (ELCB, RCCB, MCB) as a safety shield in homes or other buildings.

Proper earthing is the foundation and essential to avoid electrical hazards in the electrical setup. If there is a malfunction in the internal electrical system of households or other establishments and the power supply continues without interruption, there is a high likelihood of accidents. It is crucial that the power supply is immediately disconnected. Therefore, it is essential to install circuit breakers such as Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB), Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB), or Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) in homes, societies, or other buildings. Circuit breakers are the primary and important safety shield to prevent electrical accidents caused by faults in internal wiring or equipment.

Circuit breakers disconnect the power supply to prevent electrical accidents caused by overuse of electrical appliances, current leakage due to faults in the electric circuit, short circuits, voltage increases, or earth faults. These circuit breakers are typically priced between two thousand and three thousand rupees. As a safety shield, it is essential to prioritize the installation of circuit breakers in homes, offices, etc.

It is very important to ensure that the ‘earthing’ is in proper condition and to verify it at least every two years to avoid electrical accidents. While building new structures, it is mandatory to install circuit breakers along with earthing. However, if they are not present in older structures, it is essential to install them immediately.

An Electrical Tester is a Lifesaver – Electrical testers, available in the market for around 20 to 50 rupees, can help prevent electrical accidents. If you feel a tingling sensation when touching damp walls, tin sheets, clothes drying iron wires, refrigerators, TVs, computers, geysers, or water taps, coolers, etc., check them with an electrical tester before touching. Wear rubber or plastic slippers.
