In Pune’s Shivajinagar neighbourhood, a traffic police officer was seen on camera threatening to arrest a man. Social media users rapidly began sharing the video.

When a man pulled over on the side of the road to wait for a friend, that’s when it all began. A towing crane and a traffic policeman arrived and started hauling the car while he waited. Just before the car was about to be towed, the man objected and his friend showed up. They said they were in a rush and requested the officer to accept a fine and get out of the car. The policeman, however, insisted that they take the car back to the police station. The two begged again and again, saying they were on their way to work and would be running late.

The situation escalated when the officer grabbed the man by his collar. When one of the men challenged the officer’s authority to arrest him, the officer responded, “I’ll show you how I can arrest you. I’ll show you what I can do.” Two friends of the crane crew then arrived and began assaulting the two men. They reportedly threatened to initiate a case against the men for hindering government activity if they reported the event to the police. The two men proceeded to the police station despite this. Officers threatened to file a counter complaint against them if they filed a complaint, adding to the pressure they were under.
