June 21, 2024

The rescue operation to save children, in Adai village, Panvel, after they ventured near a waterfall and were unable to descend took place on Thursday, June 20. The locals alerted the authorities about the group’s precarious situation. Despite warnings and a ban on entering waterfalls in the Panvel area, the youths from Mumbai had entered the restricted hilly area, which led to their entrapment due to heavy rainfall.

Among the rescued individuals were four girls identified as Sakshi Chetan Darji, Yukti Dharmendra Patel, Hemant Ketan Sharma, and Lay Prashant Gopar, all from Bhayandar. The group’s attempt to enjoy the natural beauty of the waterfall turned dangerous as they found themselves stranded and unable to find a safe path down.

Authorities had previously placed warning notices and enforced a ban on accessing waterfalls in the region to prevent such incidents, especially during the monsoon season. The police and fire brigade’s prompt response and coordinated efforts ensured the safety of the stranded youths, highlighting the importance of adhering to safety guidelines in such environments.
