Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Tuesday claimed that the son of a state MLA was involved in the Porsche crash in Pune that resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Addressing a press conference, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole asserted that the legislator used his influence to suppress the incident.

Patole demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the crash and called for Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to resign. On May 19, two IT professionals were killed in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area when a Porsche, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old under the influence, ran over them. The case sparked outrage when the Juvenile Justice Board initially granted the minor bail and assigned him to write an essay on road safety. This decision was later reversed, and the minor was sent to an observation home until June 5.

“The CBI must investigate this crash due to apparent political interference protecting the wealthy accused. Devendra Fadnavis leveraged his legal expertise to shield the accused. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde should clarify the situation, and Fadnavis’s role is dubious; he should resign,” stated Patole.

Patole further alleged that Sassoon General Hospital was accommodating criminals luxuriously. “Despite the state’s severe drought, incidents of drunk driving and drug abuse are rising,” he remarked.

He also highlighted similar incidents in Nagpur and Jalgaon, where privileged individuals received immediate bail after fatal accidents. In Nagpur, two girls were granted bail within 10 hours after running over two youths, and a similar attempt was made to protect the accused in Jalgaon.

“An illegal drug network is operating in Pune, with illicit pubs prevalent in Pune and Nagpur. Following the car accident, 36 illegal pubs in Pune were demolished. The BJP has damaged the youth by facilitating large drug shipments from Gujarat to Maharashtra,” Patole claimed.
