After India’s thrilling victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on June 29, Rohit Sharma celebrated in a unique way. India won by seven runs, ending a 13-year wait for a World Cup and claiming their first ICC trophy since 2013.

Following the emotional win, Rohit, along with many teammates, was visibly moved. In a memorable moment, Rohit planted an India flag on the Barbados outfield and even picked up a bit of the pitch and took a bite of it.

This gesture was reminiscent of tennis star Novak Djokovic, who famously eats grass after his Wimbledon victories. Rohit explained his spontaneous celebration, saying, “I didn’t know what to do from the emotions that I had at that moment. It was an incredible feeling, so the tasting of the grass came spontaneously. It tasted really good!”

Rohit reflected on the significance of the win, calling it the pinnacle of his career. “This has to be the greatest time. I can say that. It’s only because of how desperately I wanted to win this.

All the runs that I’ve scored in all these years, it does matter but I’m not big on stats and all of that. Winning games for India, winning trophies for India – that is what I look forward to all the time,” he said.
