Significant Rainfall Recorded in Maharashtra’s Hill Stations and Villages, Rivers Swell

Amboli, a renowned hill station in Sindhudurg district, recorded the highest rainfall in June with an impressive 1,237.5 mm. Following closely is Patharpunj in Patan tehsil of Satara district, which received 1,171 mm of rain. 

Gaganbawda in Kolhapur experienced 814 mm of rainfall, while Mahabaleshwar, another famous hill station in Satara, reported 800 mm of rain. Additionally, Navaja, situated on the backwaters of Koyna dam, recorded 1,021 mm of rainfall in June.

Patharpunj which is located approximately 30 km from Patan town in Satara district, gained national prominence in 2019. Its rainfall exceeded even Cherrapunji, receiving over 9,000 mm during the monsoon. The hamlet, home to fewer than 500 people, is situated in the core zone of Chandoli National Park and Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. 

The rainfall in Patharpunj supplies water to the Warna dam and the Koyna dam. This village sits at the intersection of Satara, Sangli, Ratnagiri, and Kolhapur districts. Within the Warna river basin, three rain gauge stations are operational: Patharpunj, Nivali, and Dhangarwada.

The Krishna river is flowing at four feet and three inches at Irwin Bridge in Sangli, while the Panchganga river is flowing at 17 feet and seven inches, submerging six barrages. The water stock in Koyna dam has reached 14 TMC, and Warna dam has a stock of 11.51 TMC.
