Yerawada Metro Station Prepares for Launch Pending CMRS Inspection in July

Date: June 20, 2024

Pune: The Yerawada Metro station is nearing operational readiness with an expected inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) scheduled for early July, officials confirmed this week. This development marks a crucial step towards opening the station, eagerly awaited by commuters in the area.

Officials from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) stated that the civil work for the station’s revised entry-exit point, situated at the Yerawada gaothan end, is in its concluding stages. Originally scheduled to commence operations on March 6, 2024, along with other stations on the Ramwadi route, the start was delayed due to objections from local residents and political leaders regarding the alignment of the entry-exit point.

“We have formally approached CMRS to finalize the inspection schedule,” an official announced. “Upon receiving the certification from CMRS, necessary adjustments to the timetable will be made, and Metro rakes will start stopping at the station.”

Yerawada Metro Station holds significant importance on the Ramwadi route, given its proximity to numerous residential and commercial hubs. Commuters expressed frustration over the delay, emphasizing the station’s role in improving local transportation. They remarked, “Despite three months passing, services haven’t commenced yet.”

Local residents had raised concerns about potential traffic disruptions caused by the previous configuration of the entry-exit point, which impeded traffic flow towards the gaothan from the main road.

With the CMRS inspection expected to conclude successfully in July, residents and commuters eagerly await the operational launch of Yerawada Metro station. The opening is poised to enhance connectivity and convenience, benefiting residents, businesses, and commuters across Pune.
