Recently, three Zika cases were discovered in the Erandwane and Mundhwa areas. Blood samples from 20 people who came in contact with these patients have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) for testing. The cases included 5 pregnant women, 15 fever-stricken individuals, and their family members.

Two Zika cases were found in Erandwane, including a 46-year-old doctor and his 15-year-old daughter. Samples from 5 pregnant and 3 suspected patients were sent to NIV. According to the assistant health officer, the municipal health department has surveyed 2,422 houses in the area.

Also, a 47-year-old woman in Mundhwa was infected with Zika. Blood samples from 12 people, including the patient’s family and nine neighbours with fever symptoms, were also sent for testing. Additionally, 1,500 houses in Mundhwa were surveyed, and mosquito larvae were found in 49 houses.

The municipal corporation received a positive Zika patient’s examination report from a private laboratory on June 1, but the laboratory did not inform the authorities until June 22. The patient went home after getting treatment from a private hospital. As a result, the health department of the municipal corporation issued a notice to the private laboratory.
